Orange has announced that its European TowerCo, TOTEM is now operational.

The firm affirms that its creation will enable it to strengthen its position as manager and operator of passive mobile infrastructures and to benefit from new growth drivers.

The management and operation of TOTEM will be independent after the transfer of key assets from the passive mobile infrastructure.

Stéphane Richard, Chairman and CEO of Orange, said: “The operational launch of TOTEM is an important step in our European infrastructure strategy.

“The creation of this entity will allow us to enhance our passive mobile infrastructure, for which we have exceptional operational expertise. By opening these assets to other operators, we will optimize its use.

“We are determined to support TOTEM both strategically and financially, to make it an undisputed leader on the European market and to keep control of this strategic asset within the framework of a long-term industrial vision. By maintaining control of our infrastructure, we have made a critical decision for our future growth. “

TOTEM’s passive mobile infrastructure includes more than 26,000 sites in France and Spain. TOTEM France will manage 18,500 macro-sites while TOTEM Spain will manage 7,900.

TOTEM France currently has around 100 employees in France based in seven cities while Spain has 50 employees in eight cities. TOTEM will study the possibility of incorporating other assets of the Orange group that will provide added value, the company said.

Nicolas Roy, CEO of the TOTEM Group, declared: “First launched in France and Spain, TOTEM has become a new player in regional development in Europe. TOTEM will create value for all stakeholders – operators, property owners and players, local authorities, businesses – thanks to its connectivity and equipment pooling solutions.

TOTEM’s teams will rely on the excellence of its mobile infrastructure and a deep understanding of its customers’ needs to develop connectivity services everywhere, in rural and urban areas.
