In the Cour du Baron residences in the Loire Valley – Robb Report
Paris and the south of France might get all the attention, but the Loire Valley in central France deserves a chance in the spotlight.
Domaine des Bordes, nestled amongst 1,400 hectares in the Sologne Forest (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), opened in 1987 and is home to the private golf club, Les Bordes Golf Club. Now, after a change in ownership in 2018, the community is growing to include single-family residences, a Six Senses hotel, and more. As an established premier golf destination, old and new members alike can now reside where they love to vacation. It’s easy to get to, just 90 minutes from Paris, but you feel out of the way.
The Domaine des Bordes recently launched baron’s court, a collection of 89 single-family residences built by famed architect Michaelis Boyd, known for his work designing Soho Houses. The residences will be built in phases and 18 of the first 21 houses have already been sold to members of Golf Les Bordes. The remaining three and the next phase of 24 homes are now available for purchase and move-ins begin in late 2023. Layouts range from three to seven bedrooms and range in price from around $1.5 million to $6.5 million. dollars and more.
“Contemporary homes like these are truly rare in France and the Loire Valley region, where the luxury residential offering consists mainly of castles and historic estates,” says Max Binda, CEO of Domaine Les Borders. “At Cour du Baron, residents now have the unique opportunity to experience stunning natural scenery and rich historic culture while having all the luxuries of a modern, fully gated residential community at their fingertips.”
The residences are designed to embody a relaxed, private, European and idyllic lifestyle in the French countryside. Each home has spacious interior and exterior floor plans and gorgeous interiors with many custom stone and wood options. Some also have the option of a swimming pool. Residents have the choice of a turnkey residence, and La Cour du Baron offers several curated furnishing packages, from contemporary to classic style decor. Each house is nestled in nature in the heart of the Sologne forest, home to centuries-old oak trees, rolling pastures, panoramic lakes and a variety of wildlife.
“Our architectural approach promotes a connection between interior and exterior spaces, provides views of the landscape, and utilizes natural light and ventilation, all with the aim of creating private properties that resemble distinctive French country estates,” says Matt Sanders, director at Michaelis Boyd.
Residents will have access to 24-hour security, concierge and maintenance for a stress-free ownership experience. You can also opt for landscaping, housekeeping, laundry, and childcare, making it feel like you’re living in a hotel. Members will also have the opportunity to participate in several outdoor activities, ranging from fishing and fishing lessons, to biking, and even horseback riding through the equestrian center. The family development will also offer a range of activities for children, such as a playground, a go-kart track, a children’s farm and a pony ride.
For golf enthusiasts, the Golf Club des Bordes is considered one of the best golfing destinations in continental Europe, with 46 holes in total. There is a course designed by Gil Hanse and a course designed by Robert von Hagge on the property. In a few years, the brand new Six Senses Hotel will open its doors in the Domaine des Bordes, with the brand’s renowned spa and restaurants, which will undoubtedly make it a sought-after holiday destination also for non-members.
The area outside the community offers a lot in terms of history. Surrounding the Domaine des Bordes are medieval towns, gardens, the Loire and majestic castles and estates. Within an hour’s drive are Michelin-recognized restaurants and numerous wineries.
Binda says there has been huge interest from US buyers, as well as the UK, Switzerland, France, Singapore and Hong Kong. Such overseas developments come at a unique time, as the dollar is strong and prices in the United States are rising. Bloomberg reported that US-based buyers increased by 37% in the first five months of 2022.
