French ProTeam Delko folds – CyclingTips
The Delko team withdrew against the backdrop of financial problems, DirectBike reports.
The France Pro team, which first raced as a team registered with the UCI as La Pomme Marseille in 2011, was known as La Pomme Marseille 13, La Pomme Marseille KTM , Delko Marseille Provence KTM, Delko Marseille Provence and Nippo Delko One Provence on its history before simply becoming âDelkoâ this year. He rose to the Pro Continental ranks in 2016 and remained at that level for the following years. Notables from the peloton who have raced for the team at some point in their careers, full time or as interns, include Toms Skujins, Ãngel Madrazo, Leonardo Duque, Ramunas Navardauskas and Christophe Laporte.
The team were known to have faced financial problems last season, with Nippo and Provence both leaving as sponsors at the end of the year. According to Cyclingnews, the UCI initiated proceedings to release the team’s bank guarantee after the riders said they had not received their full salary. In addition, at least two riders have reportedly said that team manager Philippe Lannes hinted that they would not race for the team the following season despite their contracts, although Lannes denied the claims.
Despite their financial problems, the team continued to race this season, but Sunday’s Paris-Tours, where Julien Trarieux finished ninth, was apparently the team’s last race.
âMoney is the crux of the matter, and economically the team was at its worst. Under these conditions, it was already good to be able to go to Paris-Tours “, sporting director Benjamin Giraud told DirectoVelo.” We finished a good race and we played there. I think it is beautiful. It is better to finish in a nice way, rather than doing it all halfway and hard to just say leave at the end of the season.
